100 MW of CPV on Obama fast track 2012/7/16
PV INSIDER     2012-08-14  :
Under the Obama administration’s “We Can’t Wait” fast tracking of infrastructure projects, five solar projects on lands with administration jurisdiction have been fast tracked for speedier permit approvals. Among these solar projects is a CPV project that would be the largest CPV project in the world.
RES America’s 200 MW Moapa project on tribal land includes 100 MW in CPV. This solar project is being developed in cooperation with the Moapa Band of Paiute Indians on a 2,000 acre site on the Moapa River Indian Reservation and on lands administered by the Bureau of Land Management in Clark County, Nevada.
If approved, the 200 MW project would employ 100 MW of CSP alongside 100 MW of PV, enabling large scale side by side comparison of the two solar technologies. Once constructed, this proposed project would be one of the first large-scale solar projects on tribal lands in the U.S. and the largest CPV project in the world.
Currently the largest CPV project globally is the 30 MW Alamosa PV plant, developed by Cogentrix Energy in Colorado, which utilizes Amonix CPV systems, which went into production in of 2012.
